Ever since he left Mumbai to study in the US, Anjan Mitra sought to recreate the wonderfully aromatic and complex flavors of his mother’s cooking. After successfully launching numerous startups, Anjan wanted to pursue a new entrepreneurial path as a restaurateur with a cuisine that he believed was improperly represented in the US. Inspired to create and present South Indian cuisine in a new manner in San Francisco, he and his wife created DOSA, a Michelin-rated restaurant recognized as one of the top Indian restaurants in the country.
Chip is currently Head of Global Hospitality & Strategy for Airbnb. Perhaps no one’s better at making people feel at home when they’re away from home: Chip is the founder and former CEO of Joie de Vivre (JDV). During his 24-year tenure, JDV became the country’s second-largest boutique hotel company. In 2012, Chip received the Pioneer Award, hospitality’s highest accolade. The San Francisco Business Times named him the Most Innovative CEO—and JDV the 2nd “Best Place to Work in the Bay Area”. He is also a coveted author and speaker.
Chip received his BA and MBA from Stanford University and holds an Honorary Doctorate in Psychology from Saybrook University.
Gary left his co-CEO role at Starwood Waypoint Residential Trust (ticker: SWAY) in April of 2015 to co-found DwellConnect, an Internet marketplace designed to facilitate transactional liquidity in the SFR sector. He joined single-family rental pioneer Waypoint homes in late 2011 and helped orchestrate its merger with Starwood Capital Group in 2014, forming SWAY and taking the company public on the NYSE.
Prior to joining Waypoint, Gary served as both an operating executive and principal investor across a wide range of industries including real estate, hospitality, private equity, consumer Internet and cleantech. After helping orchestrate Geolo Capital’s controlling investment into Joie de Vivre Hospitality in mid-2010, Gary served as JDV’s CEO until the company’s merger with Thompson Hotels in October 2011. Prior to joining Geolo Capital in the fall of 2009, he served as CEO of GreenVolts, an award-winning solar technology start-up.
Between 2001 and 2007 Gary was an operating executive with ZipRealty, where as its CFO he led the innovative Internet-based residential brokerage through its successful IPO before eventually being named its President. Gary also spent six years with KSL Resorts, where he was instrumental in acquiring and integrating over $800 MM of hotel and resort properties. Earlier in his career, Gary worked for leading real estate industry firms LaSalle Partners (now JLL) and Security Capital Group.
Gary holds a BA in Economics from Northwestern University and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
With over 25 years of hospitality experience, Homi serves as the CEO of Canyon Equity, a leading developer of luxury resorts. Previously, he headed the Lodging practice at Bank of America, financing major global projects for Wall Street’s premier lodging group. Homi has also been the CEO of Bent Severin and Associates, a lodging design firm, and Feiler Brothers International.
Homi is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.
Nader is a licensed psychotherapist and a founder of AgeSong, an innovative company focused on caring for elders with dementia and Alzheimer’s. A passionate advocate for caring more comprehensively for our elders, Nader has authored many books on the aging process and memory loss conditions and is a frequent guest international lecturer.
Suneel has always had a passion for building businesses. He currently serves as Vice President of Product Development for Groupon. Suneel has also created products for Mozilla Labs (the innovation arm of Firefox), blogged for MTV, developed television concepts for Sony Pictures, led trade efforts in Ghana, and wrote speeches in President Clinton’s West Wing. In addition, Suneel and his brother, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s chief medical correspondent, run the Kahani Movement, a documentary film project which captures the stories of elderly South Asian immigrants and preserves them online for future generations.
Suneel received his JD/MBA from Northwestern University.
As CEO of Moana Hotel & Restaurant Group, Tim develops and manages a wide range of successful hotels and restaurants. Moana Hotel and Restaurant Group specializes in crafting experiences that are sophisticated yet approachable; vibrant yet casually elegant. Tim is also a Principal at Auberge Resorts, an international collection of renowned resorts including the acclaimed Auberge du Soleil in the Napa Valley, Esperanza in Los Cabos, Mexico, and Solage Hotels and Resorts.
Tim is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and the Hastings College of Law in San Francisco.
